Wednesday Week

An important message...

Your chance to save a life

I’m gonna start with something serious this week and in my opinion the best initiative to come out of the club this week. Apologies that most of this is lifted directly from the OS but I think it’s important.
Chairman Lee Strafford popped down to the Sheffield Donor Centre to offer his support to the NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) appeal, which aims to build up stocks of blood before the winter period. He said: "I would like to encourage people to go out and give blood. There is always a need for new donors but especially around winter time. Hopefully Sheffield Wednesday backing this appeal will encourage people to donate blood and help make a difference to people's lives. Giving blood really can make a vital difference so I would urge anybody able to donate to get in touch with their local donation centre.”

My 'souvenir'
I was actually down there giving blood yesterday so it’s a shame I didn’t bump into Mr Strafford as I’ve been meaning to ask where the vuvuzelas have gone in the hope of starting a campaign to bring them back. Seriously though it’s a really worthwhile thing to do, especially this time of year and it only takes up about an hour of your time; you even get a free cup of tea and a selection of biscuits once your done. Simples!

Away daze...

OK, onto the footballing side of things where ironically probably the ‘biggest’ story to come out the club this week is the new away kit; as chosen by 46% of fans who voted in the online poll. It was my favourite out of the three to be honest although I doubt I’ll shell out another £40 for yet another shirt; I bought a shirt for a mate’s birthday the other day and it cost me a bloody fortune once I’d got it numbered and lettered! I’m a poor student don’t you know...

Wood we send him to Coventry?

The big issue is still the future of Richard Wood who, according to reports in yesterday’s media, is off to Coventy on loan. Brian Laws was quick to point out that the former Owls skipper will be going nowhere unless the loan includes a deal to sign the player in January. Meanwhile current Wednesday captain Darren Purse has told The Star he is determined to win back his place in the side after losing ‘two to three kilograms’ after coming down with the flu back which recently decimated the squad. The illness probably did Brian Laws a favour as it prevented him from having to ‘drop’ the man he made captain in the summer but now he has to decide whether to break up a defence which has done OK in the last couple of games. Purse admits he’s not guaranteed a starting spot at Ipswich. "Hindsy has come in and done well; Lewis has moved from right back and settled in, and we've still got Richard Wood and Mark Beevers,” said the Londoner. "It's not a foregone conclusion that I'll walk straight back in the side or even be on the bench.”

I thought investment was when Beastie bought a new undergarment...

It’s international week so inevitably it’s a fairly slow news week. The Sheffield Telegraph claim the Owls are ‘closing in on investment’ which seems to be based on the fact that delegations from Italy and the US were at the QPR game on Saturday. Despite the fact no-one has been named Lee Strafford still suggests the club are attempting to have an agreement in place by Christmas. “But if the process is positive and goes beyond that, we don't care," he told the Telegraph.
Talking of internationals Wednesday’s only regular international, Jermaine Johnson, is off to South Africa as his Jamaica side take on the host of next summer’s World Cup. I spoke to JJ on a well-known social networking site the other day and wished him good luck for the match. His incisive response was ‘thanks bro’. Man of the people is our JJ, down with the kids and all that.
