Wednesday Week

Evening kick-off at Portman Road this year...

Wood staying in the window

A quiet week as the transfer window slammed shut then at Hillsborough with no-one coming in or indeed leaving for pastures new. Richard Wood was heavily linked with a move to Roy Keane’s Ipswich on deadline day, however he is going nowhere. Brian Laws today revealed that Ipswich did offer a swap deal, believed to involve Jon Stead going the other way, insisting he is not interested in this sort of deal. “What we would be looking for is cash but we don't have to sell,” said Laws. He also indicated that the club are now looking to tie Wood to the club by offering him a new contract; presumably offering more than the packet of crisps and a Kitkat he was offered last time round...

Ipswich switch

Talking of Ipswich, our visit to Portman Road on Saturday 21st November has been selected for live coverage on Sky and will now be a 5.20pm kick-off, much to the annoyance of Wednesdayites making the long journey to Suffolk no doubt. This will be Wednesday’s third appearance on Sky this season as our trips to Bramall Lane and Vicarage Road have both been moved to Friday night to cater for Sky live coverage.

At the Lane...

Tickets for said match at Bramall Lane went on sale on Tuesday and as of 5pm last night (Wednesday) there were only 900 tickets remaining. Wednesdayites are sure to snap up the remaining tickets today as we look to record our third successive victory against our neighbours from across the city.

Striker signing our most important, says Laws

Marcus Tudgay of course scored the winning goal at the Lane last year and Brian Laws has said that he was the most important signing of the summer for the Owls. Despite a quiet start to the season Tudders has scored three in the last two games, including a class finish to wrap up the points at Plymouth on Saturday and Laws has spoken of his pleasure at sealing the signature of the ex-Derby man despite advances from Burnley. Said Laws, "it sends out the right statement about the club. That we are serious about building something for the future.” It is fair to see Wednesday would be struggling big time without Tudders with Sodje and Clarke spending more time injured than available for selection and with even the most patient of fans losing patience with Jeffers following his disgusting violent conduct at Port Vale.

POTM? Star ratings all the way for me!

And finally, fans are invited to select their player of the month via the Official Site. Jermaine Johnson is the obvious front-runner after his lightning start to the season however my vote goes to Darren Potter who has pulled the strings in impressive fashion in August and I’m hoping for more of the same from the former Wolves man in September as Wednesday face huge games against Forest, Boro and of course United in the space of a week. It’s good to see some people have a sense of humour, though, as Franny Jeffers has received 20 votes for player of the month - as many as fans’ favourite Tommy Spurr.
